The Unpainted Canvas

by Tammie Crowder

In mother’s arms a child knows

The happiness and warmth her love shows

Bright blue eyes and angelic smile

Make mother’s dreams run a very long mile

Her hopes and her dreams could never prepare

For this little boy’s future is up in the air

Choices he’ll make and people he’ll meet

This road he must travel with his own two feet

She’ll love him support him and sometimes ask why

As this little boy grows and reaches for the sky

He hunts and he struggles to find his own place

In this mighty big world full of wide open space

Not always happy with the path her son takes

She will allow him to make his mistakes

For this road that he travels is his own

Eventually he will find his way home.

Sitting and waiting she can finally smile

Although it has taken a very long while

The paths that were chosen have come to an end

He has finally realized she’s his one true friend.

Now he is the father of a wonderful son

And she passes the torch and allows him run

For it’s now her son’s turn to sit back and dream

As he experiences a world like he’s never seen

His baby, his son, his beautiful boy

Shall bring him years of comfort and joy

Happiness, sorrow and anger it’s true

All these things your child gives you

Remember the years your mother stood by

Love, tenderness and twinkling eye

Painting a canvas of life on your own

Waiting for the day when you’d find your way home.
