Shit From the Lip 6/17/99
Dear Mates
We are recording 'Buried Alive' for the F.A.K.K.II, and I am excited to tell you this; the film & music will be out Oct.99.
Just to tell you I am
back riding my 'Wide Glide' (H.D) and took a run from Los Angeles starting WED.
9th June
we went up 101 rt. N. to San Luis Obispo ->REI the
seaside highway, rode up to Carmel, across to San Jose spent the night, Next day
Thursday, we rode up 101 to Piercey between Garberville & Leggit, saw the
camp ground; rode on up to Eureka & above to Arcata stayed the night. Next
day we rode to see the Redwoods right next to the Oregon border on the coast.
Then we rode the 100 miles back to Piercey, where the gradual number of bikes on
the road gave proof that the 22nd 'REDWOOD RUN' was in full go. Friday at 4.30
we got to the camp ground. So many bikes 4,000 (6,000 people)

that night we got our spot with some other riders. Arriving was magic as the road down to the camping spot circled and we saw all the bikes, tents, stage eating areas. We talked to the other bikers, who came from everywhere, mainly California especially San Francisco, but all over really. On Saturday night I got on stage with Los Lobos & did "Train kept a-rollin" & a great version of 'Born to be Wild'. Later with the 'Fryed' Bros I did "L.A. Woman." Some moonshine & laughs later we crashed out in our clothes in our tent with the bikes parked in front. Next day we pottered about going to a place where you could ride thru a 'redwood tree! something I'd only read about in a ladybird book in England. On Sunday my bike had problems starting. So we started riding at 9.15 am and

getting home 9.25pm
made it back to L.A. with two stops ^. Going 80 all the way getting up to 90-95. How we missed the cops I don't know. (800 miles in one day 2,000 in all )
Hope your all well & having fun

Thanx For the Mammaries No 1. 6/16/99
Back in 1976. Tony James & myself had begun Generation X. We started in 1975 as Chelsea but by '76 with me singing and Bob Andrews on Guitar we looked for somewhere to Debut Gen X. A friend of Tony's decided to help us. We all knew of the closed down soul club Chagarama's on Weal St Covent Gd.
So with our managers help we decided to start our own club. This was especially necessary as in central London all the clubs (Marquee etc) had banned Punk Rock. We obtained the liscense and helped decorate the club; I helped to put up the black backdrop & we set a date in NOV '76 for the opening. I remember that at that time that Johnny Thunders new band was playing everywhere. So we got them to headline & we

supported altho' we did a trial run the night before with "Slaughter & the dogs" supporting us.
On the opening night we did "Ready Steady Go," "Youth, Youth, Youth" "Save my life". I wore a black shirt (open) & tie. We hadn't started wearing the Russian constructavist block T.shirts of Tony's hand drawn.
Later in Jan .77 the Clash opened it officially but by then it was a raging success. and was the only inner London Club.-Don Leth played Dub reggae on the sound system.

Shit from the Lip Extra Hollister Run
We set out on Friday 2 July myself & Steve McGrath. Up the 395 along the Mojave Deserts west side up to Mammoth. Spent the night with Steves Sister & Bro. In law.
Next day to Yosemite, the beautifull Park that is in the centre of Middle California. Stayed SAT with Steves other sister who works with the Park Rangers Search & Rescue. She had a few stories I can tell you. Then Sunday we worked our way thru Modesto to Hollister. Got there about 5.30. Looked at the bikes parked down the Main street.
This is the town that The Wild One made famous. So appropriate we

spent July 4th there. We parked up the road & set up camp.
Later that Evening Greg Kihn was playing & I got up to jam Jumping Jack Flash Wild Thing & Little Queenie great fun.
We spent the night and next day came back down the 101.S to L.A. got home about 6.30 about 1,000 miles in all.
Ride Safe

4 Corners Run 1999
Utah, Colorado, New Mexico & Arizona form a square in the lower right of America rather like this. Ignago is a small town in Colorado where the 4 Corners bike run was held. Over 36,000 bikers were

there . Myself & Steve were only going for a put to King Canyon below Yosemite. When my brake lever fell off. We went to Bakersfield H.D. Shop where Kiwi a guy there said 'are you going on

the 4 Corners Run' Well Steve had told me about this big run, but thought it was later in the year. I said 'we've got to go' 36,000 bikers!
Steve said yeah he being the one who told
me about it from the start-
So we rode to my house, got extra provisions, slept till 4 am & left.
By lunchtime there was obviously something wrong, with my 'front end' The H.D.
shop in Vegas fixed it & were really great & by the next day we rode
from Vegas, thru the Zion Park (a scenic desert 'Yosemite') & we stopped
after 14hrs at Cortez, 40 miles from our destination. We rode to Durango &
then Ignacio, Next day.

©1999
Got there at 12.00 noon pitched our tent with our bikes in front & then went & looked at all the festivities. The best thing (apart from all the 'outlaw' bikes) was a spectacular 15 min long firework show. There was people playing music there, but nobody we knew. so I did not try & force people to accept me. I liked being there as just another biker. One guy even said 'y' know your NOT JUST a Hollywood rider, (great stuff)
HOME 12. noon sunday we rode home stopping the night in Tuba. Rode on thru the reservation staying at a hotel on the reservation. rode on & stayed at a hotel 3 hours from home at Victurville

& by noon next day I was home & exhausted. That was a couple of thousand miles, & all the bikes in one glittering square after any other makes you want to write a song.
Keep Rockin
Your mate
P.S
Who else went ?
ride free-
Fakk 2 finishes
Buried Alive has different tune
but still sounds good!
alright

The "Too much Fun" Coast Run .99
A week after the 4 corners,
Steve McGrath 'rude' leader, informed me 'Big AL' from the Redwood Run and some
pals were having a meeting off Spearpoint (Healdsburg) above Santa Rosa above
San Francisco. Not having much time, ( Steve finishing a session at 1 a.m) we
met at 4.00 am Friday rode up the (5), to surprise Big Al etAll.
By 5 pm we were there but having trouble finding them. We camped at the beach
& Steve located them. We arrived to find a house hidden in the hills were
some one had put up a stage which had a blues / rock band playing on it, it was
great!!
The mist socked everything in

but with the big Redwoods etc, & bikes,
It was all very mystical. I joined the band for 'Tear it up' (Johnny Burnette)
'My baby left me' (Elvis) Baby please don't go / Gloria (Van Morrison) &
everybody looked like they were having a great time. We DiD suprise Big
Al* who didn't know we were actually going to make it. We stayed to Monday &
rode back (without incident).
Wow ! another 1,000 - 1½ miles especially after we got back from the 4 corners on the Tuesday and were off by Friday. A little break is called for, until Bonneville, Wendover Salt flats Oct 26 UTAH.
Music
Me & Steve Stevens are writing. (I wanna Rock)
